I plan to write here from time to time, blogging some of my own thoughts and sharing different ideas as they land – but I’m more of a listener than a ‘talker’ so blogs wont happen regularly necessarily, but I do love to write when I have the time and space, and if and when I have something to say that I feel is worth sharing.
I love working as a counsellor, it is a role that uses some of my most natural skills and gifting, mainly in listening and and coming alongside others with empathy. The counselling training journey in itself is at times an arduous task, as self-examination and self-awareness are so very important to our learning. All trained counsellors will have had many hours of their own face-to-face therapy, in order to learn more deeply about themselves and dealing with their own difficulties in order to feel more confident in working safely and carefully with clients, without their own faulty thinking and behaviours getting in the way.
But this self-awareness is an ongoing journey, we are all complex individuals, and we each bump up against all sorts of situations in life which can become difficult to navigate emotionally, and so the art of regular reflection and self-examination is important so that we can remain steady for our clients in the counselling room whilst they are facing and dealing with their own storms.
Having been helped so much by my own counsellor with navigating my own way through my own storm years ago, I was inspired to learn how to do the same for others and took the decision to go back to studying and gain my own qualification. I have loved working at The Light House, Coventry, as an associate counsellor, and hope to continue to do that alongside my own private practice for a long time to come as it’s a wonderful place that makes counselling accessible to all as far as possible – which is where my heart is.
I begin this new chapter of private practice, looking forward to meeting new clients and working with them at a deep level, so that together we can work towards the changes that they are looking for.
